Former Michigan House Speaker Lee Chatfield and his wife will stand trial over the alleged mishandling of thousands of dollars raised through political funds, a district judge ruled May 30.

East Lansing District Judge Molly Hennessey Greenwalt ruled Friday there is probable cause for cases against Chatfield and his wife, Stephanie, to proceed to Ingham County Circuit Court.

Lee Chatfield was Michigan House Speaker in 2019 and 2020. While he was a formidable fundraiser, prosecutors say Chatfield and his wife misused money from political funds for personal spending.
