A smaller Kmart in Miami, Florida, will remain open, after the chain closed a store in Westwood, NJ late last year. The company had shuttered its third-to-last location in Avenel, NJ in April 2022.

Kmart is closing its last big-box store in the contiguous U.S., employees with the company told CBS MoneyWatch, capping the retreat of what was once America's dominant discount retailer.

When the Kmart in Avenel, New Jersey, closes its doors on April 16, it will leave just a handful of remaining U.S. locations for the former retail powerhouse.
