A $4.5 million National Science Foundation grant will be used to develop a state-of-the-art public visitor program for Kitt Peak National Observatory.

Kitt Peak, about 55 miles southwest of Tucson, is home to 22 optical telescopes and two radio telescopes. Its continued health as an observing site is threatened by federal budget cuts.
