TotalEnergies has acquired interests in several offshore blocks in Malaysia and one block in Indonesia from Petronas. The licences span more than 100,000km² and are in various stages of development.

Petronas, on the other hand, is built differently. For one thing, Malaysia has a much smaller domestic market than Indonesia, accounting for only around 26.5 percent of revenue in 2021.
