After an eight-year low of 119,000 visitors in fiscal 2011, the park’s attendance has been steadily rising, seeing 129,000 visitors in fiscal 2012 and almost 132,000 for the year ending June 30.

Kartchner Caverns' two tour options, which require reservations, cost $18.95 and $22.95 for adults. Adding to the concern is a decrease in attendance during the summer, Travous said.

Arizona State Parks recently celebrated the 10-year anniversary of visitor access to Kartchner Caverns' Big Room, which is closed during part of the year because it is inhabited by bats.

Kartchner Caverns State Park is now open and resuming normal operations, according to Arizona State Parks. Power has been restored to the park, and entry is reopened to visitors and campers.

The 50th anniversary of the discovery of the Kartchner Caverns and 25th anniversary of the opening of its corresponding state park designation will be celebrated on Sunday, Nov. 10.
