KAUAI COUNTY, Hawaii (Island News) -- The DLNR Division of State Parks (DSP) elected to close the entire Kalalau Trail section for public health and safety from norovirus.

By By Amy Graff, SF Gate , Hawaii — A portion of the Kalalau Trail on the Hawaiian island of Kauai closed this week after 24 hikers fell ill with a highly contagious norovirus, officials said.

A portion of the Kalalau Trail on the Kalalau section of the Nāpali Coast State Wilderness Park on the island of Kauai was shuttered for seven days beginning Sept. 4, the this week.

Over the weekend, Kauai County firefighters responded to multiple calls for rescue at Kalalau from hikers who became ill on the trail, and airlifted one out of the area via helicopter.

Permit holders for the closed dates at Kalalau can request a refund or rebook to a later date by emailing DLNR.DSP.Permits@hawaii.gov. To report an illness, contact the DOH Disease Investigation ...
