As we get ready to close out the first week of free agency, the Carolina Hurricanes have set themselves up for a stellar 2025-26 season after the additions of Nikolaj Ehlers and K’Andre Miller.

Marc Bergevin acquired the pending UFA after they had lost Jesperi Kotkaniemi to an offer sheet and Philip Danault to the Los Angeles Kings in free agency.

Unless re-signed by the Canes by noon Tuesday, defensemen Brent Burns and Dmitry Orlov, and forward Jack Roslovic will become free agents.

Case in point: Jesperi Kotkaniemi in 2021. The Canes tendered an offer sheet to the Montreal Canadiens for the Finnish forward. The offer: one year for $6.1 million.
