Authorities said the crash, which involved multiple vehicles, occurred just before 12:30 p.m. near the Cass Avenue exit milepost 273 in the southbound lanes of Interstate 55 in suburban Darien.

The department plans to shut down northbound lanes of I-55 past Gravois (Exit 207A) through the curve to the eastbound I-44 entrance from 8 p.m. Tuesday night through 5 a.m. Wednesday morning.

Construction crews will close northbound I-55 at Carondelet/River City Boulevard (Exit 202A) at 8 p.m. Friday. Two northbound lanes will reopen by 9 a.m. Saturday.
