Democrats argue that DHS is required to allow congressional access to its facilities — and the department has violated that law.

The 12 Democrats accused the Trump administration of violating the law when it turned them away from immigrant detention sites and imposed a new policy limiting congressional access.

But the Department of Homeland Security, which oversees ICE, recently imposed new restrictions that require a week’s notice for visits. The limits also exempt ICE field offices from oversight law, even though some immigrants have been detained in those facilities, according to the Times.
