Hurricane Gabrielle will blast through the Azores before reaching Portugal as a non-tropical system, following its week-long journey. Gabrielle is moving rapidly toward the Azores — a group of nine volcanic islands about 740 miles west of Portugal — where hurricane warnings are in effect.
Hurricane Gabrielle passed Bermuda Monday night as a powerful Category 4 hurricane and is moving into the open Atlantic, the NHC said.
