The gunmetal gray building on Sotobori-dori, one of the slender streets that make up the M.C. Escher-like warren of Tokyo’s Ginza district, looks like any other building in the area.

With its many narrow alleys and stairs, it also served as inspiration for Dutch artist M.C. Escher. A tribute to him can be seen in a covered passageway in town.
