The Houston Police Department is awaiting an autopsy report for the human skeletal remains found near Herman Brown Park in northeast Houston.

Houston police said an investigation is underway after skeletal remains were found in a wooded area near the Crosby Freeway on Mercury Drive.

Investigators with the Harris County Institute of Forensic Science and HPD homicide detectives confirmed the remains found on Tuesday were human.
