Brazil’s Supreme Court has ordered the house arrest for former President Jair Bolsonaro, who is on trial for an alleged coup plot after losing the 2022 election.

A Brazilian judge on Monday placed former president Jair Bolsonaro under house arrest for breaking a social media ban, escalating a dramatic standoff between the court and the far-right politician accused of plotting a coup.

Former President Jair Bolsonaro, whose case has partly motivated President Trump’s tariffs on Brazil, was ordered to remain under house arrest as he awaited trial.
