Hawaii Island police have launched an investigation after human remains were discovered within the debris of a downed banyan tree on Kilauea Avenue in Hilo.

The remains of two women have been removed from the debris of a large banyan tree that fell over last weekend in the downtown Hilo area, Hawaii police said.
