LANSING — Gov. Gretchen Whitmer pitched her seventh annual budget to lawmakers Wednesday, proposing $83.5 billion in spending that would represent a $1 billion, or 1.2%, increase over existing levels. She also called for an extra $510 million in supplemental spending in the current fiscal year.

Beyond a historic 4.1% hike in per-student funding and a bid to intensify academic transparency, the list of recommendations would largely uphold existing priorities and programs for 1.4 million public school students.
