Updated on: June 13, 2024 / 10:18 AM EDT / CBS Pittsburgh PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — New research shows a link between certain social factors and prediabetes in children, regardless of race and ethnicity.
Researchers found children born to women who had diabetes during pregnancy were 28% more likely to have a neuro-developmental issue than those whose mothers didn't have the disease.
To help answer this question, a team of researchers turned to data from over 4,500 children with type 1 diabetes on a national register in the Czech Republic and from large-scale European DNA studies.
Compared with the control group, the odds for developing type 1 diabetes were 32% lower for children who attended day care (adjusted OR = 0.68; 95% CI, 0.58-0.79).
