MLB rules don’t specify that a dog can’t play baseball. The Nationals won’t be testing that, even as they called up Bruce the Bat Dog on Tuesday afternoon.

Bruce, a Golden Retriever, fetched a bat during a ceremony before the Washington Nationals’ game against the Miami Marlins as part of a Pups in the Park promotion.

The Nats said Bruce owns a 1.000 retrieving average in three games for Rochester this year and will make a fourth start in Rochester on Friday before traveling to Washington.
