As Los Angeles and Orange counties brace for the largest U.S. hotel worker strike in recent memory, one downtown L.A. hotel has struck a tentative deal with the union representing its employees.

On Thursday, the Westin Bonaventure Hotel & Suites, a large hotel in downtown Los Angeles, announced that it had staved off a walkout of its workers with a contract deal.

Employees at 18 hotels — including the Biltmore and JW Marriott in downtown Los Angeles and the Fairmont Miramar in Santa Monica — have gone on strike, according to the union.

At least 32 people attending a union conference at the Westin Bonaventure in downtown Los Angeles last month were sickened from an outbreak of Shigella bacteria.

Hotel representatives accused the union of failing to bargain in good faith, and Unite Here Local 11 vowed more strikes at hotels across Los Angeles and Orange counties.

The city recommends carrying proof of residence or employment for anyone planning to enter or depart the curfew area after 8 p.m.
