NPR's Ailsa Chang talks with Jamila Wignot, the filmmaker behind a new documentary series called Stax: Soulsville USA, about the story of the legendary record label.

American soul and R&B duo Sam & Dave perform with soul singer Carla Thomas on the Stax Records 'Gettin' It All Together' television special in New York City, 20th March 1969.

The label considers it a sequel to their compilations “Eccentric Soul: Omnibus” and “Eucalyptus,” an examination of the 1995 scene around Tree Records.
