The school, which opened in 1949 and was known as St. Alphonsus School, Blessed Trinity School and then St. Joseph, closed in 2020 due to declining enrollment and financial difficulties.

Less than a year after three Bethlehem churches merged and sold their properties to Lehigh University, they have again merged with another church to find a permanent home.
