BLACKSBURG, Va. (AP) Freshman Ben Hammond had a career-high 21 points off the bench, he and Jaydon Young combined for 15 points in overtime, and Virginia Tech outlasted Syracuse 101-95 on Saturday.

Hammond will try to build on his breakout performance when Virginia Tech (13-16, 8-10 ACC) hosts North Carolina (19-11, 12-6) on Tuesday night in Blacksburg, Va.
