Tommy Avallone, director of the documentary “I Love You, You Hate Me,” detailed how Barney, the once-beloved purple dinosaur, became the subject of public backlash and conspiracy theories.

Barney, the big purple dinosaur with a preschool following, will be returning to TV in 2024 with a new animated series, according to Mattel. A new film, toys and adult apparel are also in the works.
