Banff National Park is home to three of the world's finest ski resorts; Mt. Norquay, The Lake Louise Ski Area and Sunshine Village. That's almost 8,000 acres of terrain on one tri-area lift ticket.

Banff Sunshine is just over 16km away and Lake Louise Ski Resort, the biggest ski area, is just under 65km from town. Each has varied terrain to suit all levels from beginner to expert.

My host, 25-year-old Carter McMillan, and I are at Sunshine Village. It’s one of three independently owned ski areas operating in Banff, which was established in 1885 as Canada’s first national park.

Ski resorts across North America are blowing snow and preparing to spin their lifts. In the case of Lake Louise Ski Resort, Alberta, those preparations have led to a sooner-than-anticipated opening.

The ski season typically runs through the end of May, according to Rachel Wilson, director of marketing for Banff Sunshine Village, Lake Louise Ski Resort, and Mount Norquay.
