Toronto Mape Leafs star Auston Matthews was not inside the arena to witness the jersey retirement in person but he showed his appreciation for Thornton via a social media post on Instagram.

Federico Bernardeschi from Toronto FC visited Scotiabank Arena on Wednesday. He came to support forward Auston Matthews and the Maple Leafs. The Leafs played against the Florida Panthers and won 3-2.
