Antelope was named Oregon's first certified Dark Sky Community after instituting new light policies. DarkSky International noted the town's rich history from the gold rush to the Rajneesh cult.

Sisters Mayor Michael Preedin said the city had been working hard to become Oregon’s first Dark Sky Community, but lost out to the tiny town of Antelope, which earned the designation in December.
