City hall says Democratic Mayor Kathy Sheehan will sign the measure without pushback. But Sheehan says the council itself bears some of the responsibility for aggravating staff shortages.

Current City of Albany Mayor Kathy Sheehan designated Albany a Sanctuary City by Executive Order in 2017. After an influx of immigrants in 2023, Sheehan told CBS6 how she defined "Sanctuary Status".
