A cargo ship carrying more than 3,000 vehicles was still smoking Thursday, two days after a fire forced its 22 crew members to abandon ship off Alaska.

Crew members of the Morning Midas, which was transporting thousands of vehicles, were forced to abandon ship after a fire broke out onboard.

A salvage team is expected to arrive early next week at the scene of a cargo ship that was carrying about 3,000 vehicles to Mexico when it caught fire in waters off Alaska’s Aleutian island chain
