After word came down that Davante Adams was joining the Rams over the weekend, receiver Puka Nacua referred to his new teammate as “No. 17” in an interview.

As it turns out, Nacua already intended to switch from No. 17 to No. 12 (his number at BYU) since his rookie year. In a Tuesday session with reporters, Nacua said he had planned to make the move.

One person with whom Adams didn’t communicate, however, was Puka Nacua. There were no negotiations involving Taco Bell, Jordan-brand cleats or even straight cash for Nacua’s No. 17.
