The $200 million construction project along Santan Freeway portion of Loop 202 between Loop 101 and Val Vista Drive aims to improve traffic capacity and relieve congestion in the southeast Valley.

DPS says a pickup truck collided with the rear of a tow truck that was stopped on the side of the 202. Both children, a 9-year-old boy and an 11-year-old girl, died at the scene.

The impacted lanes of the 202, as well as the eastbound and westbound Kyrene off-ramps, reopened shortly after 12:30 p.m. UPDATE: Loop 202 Santan eastbound has REOPENED in Chandler.
