Apple's iPhone sales in China reportedly took a tumble at the end of 2024, with a considerable reduction in sales putting it in a dead heat with homegrown Xiaomi.

Counterpoint has analyzed the Chinese smartphone market and says its numbers show Apple’s sales slowing during the fourth quarter of 2024. A year-on-year market share comparison shows Apple’s sales fell 18.2% compared to Q4 2023, when it had a 20.2% market share and sat atop the Chinese smartphone market.

Sales of the iPhone in China suffered at the end of 2024, seeing a drop in sales that has put it in a close race for second place with Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi.

Xiaomi is rumored to be working on a new phone with a 7,500mAh battery, which would be the largest battery ever fitted to a conventional smartphone, and I hope Apple, Samsung, and Google are paying attention.

GUANGZHOU -- Smartphone makers and sellers are cutting prices on brands from iPhone to Xiaomi as they seek to make the cut for government subsidies designed to prop up demand. Subsidies began on Monday for smartphones priced below 6,000 yuan ($820). The rebates are equivalent to 15% of the sale price with the maximum subsidy of 500 yuan.

According to Counterpoint Research, Apple was unable to gain market share in China with the iPhone 16. This helps local manufacturers.
