Muhammad Yunus urges February 2026 elections before Ramadan, calling for a joyful and inclusive celebration of democracy.

The anniversary culminated with Yunus, the 85-year-old Nobel Peace Prize laureate presiding over Bangladesh’s democratic overhaul, announcing that he would write to the chief election commissioner requesting that national elections be arranged before Ramadan in February.

Bangladesh's interim leader marked one year since the overthrow of Sheikh Hasina's autocratic regime by calling on Tuesday for people to seize the "opportunity" for reform.He called for people to remember the sacrifices made last year and to work together.
