During a call with the President of Israel, Isaac Herzog, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen reiterated Israel's right to self-defense and the protection of its people, while calling for de-escalation in the wake of the latest crisis in the Middle East.

Top EU officials warned on Friday against further escalation in the Middle East, following the Israeli attack on Iran. "The reports emerging from the Middle East are deeply alarming," European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen wrote on X.

During a meeting in Berlin on 2 June, President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen and US Republican Senator Lindsey Graham discussed coordination of tough US and EU sanctions against Russia.
