CBS Sports NFL analyst Cody Benjamin recognized Bennett's preseason success, too. He called Bennett's performance "commanding," which was one of the more positive one-word evaluations of the quarterbacks who played in Week 1. It helps, too, that Rams head coach Sean McVay offered words of praise for Bennett as well.

When the Los Angeles Rams drafted quarterback Stetson Bennett out of Georgia, the idea was that he could be the long-term backup quarterback. In other words, he could be a ‘set it and forget it’ type of player at the position.

While it's just the preseason, Bennett's performance was encouraging, following two subpar seasons since the Rams selected him in the fourth round of the 2023 NFL Draft. He missed his rookie year after being placed on the reserve/non-football illness list and then had a bad preseason in 2024 before he sat the bench as the team's third-stringer.
