An off-duty U.S. Customs and Border Protection officer was shot overnight at Fort Washington Park in New York City, the Department of Homeland Security confirmed Sunday. The New York City Police Department said the shooting stemmed from an attempted robbery.

An off-duty U.S. Customs and Border Patrol officer was shot in the face and wounded during a botched robbery in an upper Manhattan park late Saturday, cops said.

A person of intertest was taken into custody Sunday in connection to the shooting of an off-duty U.S. Border Patrol officer inside a park in New York City, law enforcement sources said.
