If you buy a Switch 2, you'll be able to play almost all of your old Switch 1 games without any issues. Sadly, the same can't be said for owners of the original device. New titles such as Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza are not backwards compatible, so don't expect to be playing these blockbusters on your old Switch.

Along with the Switch 2's launch title, Mario Kart World, the company stresses that the system can now run some of the more CPU-intensive titles released on third-party systems over the last few years—including mega-hits such as Elden Ring, Cyberpunk 2077, Final Fantasy VII Remake, Street Fighter 6, and this writer’s favorite: Yakuza.
