The Giants are planning to call up left-hander Carson Whisenhunt, the club’s No. 3 prospect per MLB Pipeline, to make his Major League debut in Monday night’s series opener against the Pirates at Oracle Park.
The Giants enter Sunday’s matchup against the New York Mets at 54–51, sitting 2.5 games behind the final Wild Card spot. In June, they added ex-Red Sox superstar Rafael Devers, but it has yet to pay dividends. Devers himself is hitting just .244 with four home runs and 15 RBIs since arriving in San Francisco.
With the trade deadline just days away, the San Francisco Giants figure to be a potential team that will be looking to make some upgrades.
Triple-A Sacramento scratched Whisenhunt from his scheduled start Saturday, perhaps hinting that the Giants could call him up to pitch Monday or Tuesday against the Pirates, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
