Commissioners voted Thursday to censure Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo, marking the first time a sitting judge has been formally admonished in the county's history.

A vote to censure is a formal expression of disapproval but has no impact on Hidalgo's ability to serve in her elected position or on the commissioners court.

Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo said she was disappointed after her proposal for a tax increase for early childhood education on the November ballot had failed Thursday morning once it became clear the measure did not have the votes.
