Typically, 75% of Americans receive refunds annually. Though the IRS can mail you a paper check, the fastest and safest way is through a free, electronic direct deposit, it says.

The Internal Revenue Services is encouraging tax filers to ask for their refund via direct deposit, as doing so is a much more efficient and expedient means of receiving it.
