After having just seven teams qualify for the NCAA men’s basketball tournament, the league is hoping to find ways to boost its brand with tougher scheduling.

Iowa State’s goal, and Otzelberger has been consistent with this now through five different schedules, is to construct a non-conference slate with a decent amount of upside (elite MTE, a couple high-majors) and minimal downside risk (paying college basketball’s version of the Washington Generals to swing through Ames).
