Written by William Alan Fox, “Highest 2 Lowest” is a modern reinterpretation of Akira Kurosawa’s 1963 crime thriller “High and Low.” Lee, however, has emphasized that this isn’t a remake.

Lee told Deadline that he screened “Highest 2 Lowest” for Martin Scorsese, and wrote that Scorsese “gushed about Denzel’s magnificent acting,” and that Scorsese was “so happy” for Lee.

Highest 2 Lowest opens in theaters on August 22 via A24, before being made available on Apple TV+ on September 5. Check out the teaser trailer above.
