Sikhism was founded by a wise man called Guru Nanak. Guru Nanak is considered the first Sikh Guru. Sikhism is still based on his teachings and those of the nine Sikh Gurus who followed him.

In his final journey westward, Guru Nanak visited Mecca. The story goes that while resting there, he was asked to move his feet away from the direction of the Kaaba, a sacred site for Muslims.
