Many of the large pools of diesel fuel, noticeable by its distinct red color from dye, have been removed from Baltimore's harbor two days after a 5,000-gallon spill.

A massive oil spill in the Baltimore harbor that began Wednesday has now dumped 5,000 gallons of diesel fuel into the harbor, more than doubling the initial amount reported, the Johns Hopkins University said late Friday.

A 2,000-gallon diesel spill from tanks on the Johns Hopkins Hospital campus in East Baltimore that contaminated a portion of the Baltimore harbor had been contained as of Thursday morning, officials say.
