California is eyeing a ballot initiative this fall to redraw its House map for 2026 — only if Texas Republicans redistrict to gain more seats. New York Democrats may have to wait until 2028.

On Tuesday, Texas House Speaker Dustin Burrows says he met with DPS leadership, who say they are working on rounding up members, but it's unclear if they have the authority to do so. Rep. Tom Oliverson of Cypress, who is chair of the Texas House Republican Caucus, believes Democrats have nothing to gain by breaking quorum.
