Lee Vogler is in ‘stable but critical condition,’ with burns covering ‘more than half’ of his body, according to an update shared by his wife after he was set on fire on July 29 outside of his office in Virginia in broad daylight.

The four-term councilman suffered second- and third-degree burns covering up to 60% of his body, mostly on his torso, after alleged assailant Shotsie Michale Buck Hayes barged into Vogler’s workplace, drenched him with a five-gallon jug of fuel, chased him outside and then torched him.

A man named Shotsie Michael Buck Hayes attacked and poured gasoline on Danville City Councilman Lee Vogler before setting him on fire, according to Virginia police.
