Mumbai: A day after four people died and 18 persons were injured in a bridge collapse on the Indrayani river in Pune's Maval tehsil, the district administration on Monday decided to dismantle or remove all bridges deemed unfit for use.

The collapse of a 30-year-old footbridge over the Indrayani river in a Pune village, which killed four people, occurred just five days after a work order for a new bridge was issued, according to a report by NDTV.

The whole episode is reminiscent of what happened just over a month ago at I-20 and Columbia Highway in Aiken County. A tanker carrying a highly flammable liquid crashed under a bridge, and although no fire erupted, the chemical spill shut down I-20 for hours.
