A federal judge in Boston will consider a request from 18 states to block President Donald Trump’s executive order ending birthright citizenship for the children of parents who are in the U.S. illegally.

In total, 22 states, including Massachusetts, as well as other organizations, have sued to try to stop the birthright citizenship order.

U.S. District Judge Leo Sorokin pressed the government about long-standing U.S. Supreme Court precedent that the 14th Amendment ensures citizenship for anyone born in the United States.
