McCollum never played or coached at Drake, but he does have Iowa roots. The new Drake basketball coach was raised in Storm Lake, Iowa, and graduated from St. Mary’s High School in 1999.

McCollum was born in Iowa City, though he grew up in Storm Lake, Iowa. Both coaches could also be candidates to go to Minnesota if the Golden Gophers part ways with Ben Johnson.
