Apple is investing another $100 billion to expand its operations in the United States, the company announced on Wednesday, as President Donald Trump said he would levy a large import tax on chips coming into the country.

The White House said the pledge would bring more of the company’s supply chain and advanced manufacturing to the United States.

In a significant victory for Apple and its competitors, President Trump on Wednesday announced plans to impose tariffs of about 100% on all imports of semiconductors, but he also carved out exemptions for tech companies that pledge to manufacture in the United States.
