Some people think it's the way of the future, and certainly much more environmentally friendly and humane than the current meat industry, while others are leery at the thought of eating cloned "Frankenstein" meat.

In what’s been called a world first, consumers in the UK are now able to buy a pet treat made with lab-grown meat.

Most of the early lab-grown meats are being put into pet food. However, keep an eye on GOOD meat and Upside Foods, two companies out of California that are pioneering this kind of innovation. Many analysts looking at the U.S. food market would say that there’s big potential for lab-grown meat.

Pet snacks made with lab-grown meat are now being sold in the UK. Chick Bites, from the company Meatly, will be available in limited quantities starting Friday, February 7, in select pet shops across Great Britain.

Dog food made from meat that was grown in factory vats has gone on sale in the UK. Supplier Meatly said the "chick bites" were the first pet food products made from cultivated meat to be sold commercially anywhere in the world.

While one group of lawmakers wants to require labels for meat and meat alternatives outside of the norm, others want to ban it from Georgia.

Meatly has started selling lab-grown dog treats at a select store in the U.K., with big plans to expand going forward.
