Monty the giant schnauzer, who made history with his "Best in Show" win at the 149th Annual Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show on Feb. 11, knew it when it happened.

Terriers originally were bred to hunt vermin, but they now stalk best-in-show medals at Westminster. At least one breed of terrier – a broad category – has two of every five Best in Show honors.

The pups had their day at Madison Square Garden on Tuesday night at the 149th Annual Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show final — where the coveted Best in Show was decided Tuesday night.

A dog whose registered name is Hearthmore's Wintergreen Mountain, Monty won the working group Tuesday night, his third straight year winning that group at the Westminster Dog Show.
